While the world’s attention is drawn to major global crises, Iraq continues to suffer quietly from systematic human rights violations, suppression of civil liberties, and the marginalization of peaceful opposition. As democracy erodes within, a new voice rises from abroad: the National Council of the Iraqi Opposition (NCIO), a body committed to representing the aspirations of the Iraqi people and advocating for justice, dignity, and democratic reform.
Canada, with its principled foreign policy and humanitarian legacy, has long stood as a beacon of justice and refuge for the displaced and oppressed. Today, it has a historic opportunity to stand with a people yearning for freedom—by supporting peaceful civil forces that offer a genuine alternative to corruption, sectarianism, and violence.
The NCIO does not call for revolution, but for reform. It does not seek power, but empowerment. We believe that change must come through dialogue, law, and civic participation. Canadian support for our efforts is not interference—it is solidarity with the very values Canada has championed for decades.
The Iraqi-Canadian community, one of the most vibrant and engaged diasporas, is ready to contribute to rebuilding Iraq through civic, media, and human rights work. Their voices, experiences, and commitment are vital to shaping a future that reflects the hopes of millions.
We call on the Canadian government, Parliament, and media institutions to open channels of communication with the NCIO and hear a voice that represents hope—not division. A voice that seeks to build a nation that excludes no one, oppresses no one, and uplifts everyone.
Iraq does not need more international silence—it needs honest partnership that restores its dignity and renews its people’s faith in the future.
